Dit Lichaam van Ons/This Body of ours is a temporary queer collective consisting of nine young comic creators. They ask the question: What does the future of comics in the Netherlands look like? They answer this question with a riotous, queer and colorful comicbook and exhibition at Nieuwe Vide. The collective does this by participating in our artist in residency: DOC4 and thereby will also develop new work for the exhibition opening on the 1st of June.

For  Teken Or Leave it Leyla is giving a workshop in the context of the exhibition, about the process and research that goes into character design within comics, from sketch to final result.
Leyla is an illustrator with a love for primary colors and bold lines. She loves to work on social justice projects, film and animation festivals. Her favorite thing on earth is to create characters and to experiment with different materials, and her last obsession is animating characters and learning how to tattoo.

Dit Lichaam van Ons/This Body of ours transforms Nieuwe Vide into a showcase of themselves as artists and other cartoonists, with highlighted and enlarged images, sketches, character designs from the comic book and new work created during the residency in DOC4. In this way, the exhibition becomes a physical extension of the book ‘This Body of Ours’, launched by the collective in May 2024.

This will be part of Stripdagen Haarlem. In addition to the work by the artists themselves, this exhibition – on display during the Stripdagen Haarlem – will also be expanded with an ongoing collective artwork that will be worked on all weekend and will run together with FemiZINE ManiFEST.
