As part of Black History Month, Schuur and Nieuwe Vide are kicking off this month with the film The Watermelon Woman. Cheryl Dunye’s The Watermelon Woman (1996) is a playful and radical exploration of Black lesbian history. Recently rediscovered and re-released, it’s presented here alongside an aftertalk and exhibition featuring works by artist mo Futures and Clarice Gargard herself. Joining the aftertalk is film curator Lyse Ishimwe Nsengiyumva.
