22.04 – Supporting Acts workshop series: BBringing it together: the making of a Colophon-Reader’

ned / eng

‘BBringing it together: the making of a Colophon-Reader’ is an invitation to explore the supporting structures and highlight the often unseen labor behind the making of publications.

‘Supporting Act(s), BBringing it together’ invites you to dive into the activist library of Nieuwe Vide and collectively create a Colophon-Reader. A colophon traces the social, material, and economic processes shaping publication work. It gives credit (or not), to writers and collectives, to publishers, to funding sources, it locates the work in time and place, mentioning also copyrights and Creative Commons licenses. The colophon embodies the collective effort that makes a book, revealing the labour behind it, though not always explicitly.

Together, we will gather colophons from publications selected from the Nieuwe Vide library. Through notes and conversation, we will then engage with these and compile, print and bind our own collective reader. This reader will also serve as a guide to understand publishing infrastructures and as a reference for composing your own colophons, ultimately creating a “colophon of colophons” to close the reader. Each participant will leave with their own copy.

So you also learn bookbinding at the same time!

Teken or Leave It  provides workshops and open draws, every other Wednesday. This workshop is part of the exhibition Supporting Act(s) and Gersande Schellinx / BB (Bookbinding Workshop) was invited by the artists of the exhibition, Jeannette Slütter and Harriet Rose Morley. (
