Specially for the Invisible Man exhibition, Coco Duivenvoorde will organize three reading groups in October that focus on themes broached by the exhibition, like power structures, racism, colonialism, fear for ‘the other’ while also offering alternatives for these issues.
With the accompaniment of text, music, poetry and (moving) images, the evenings will be characterized by collective thinking, listening, writing, looking and imagining. The reading groups will draw inspiration from historic and contemporary voices and texts that include Claudia Rankine, Frantz Fanon, Audrey Lorde and Anil Ramdas among others.
10 October we will read texts by Anil Ramdas, Gloria Wekker, James Baldwin and Frantz Fanon.
17 October we will listen to music of among others Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone en Mavis Stapels.
24 October we will read poetry by Radna Fabias, Audrey Lorde, Akwasi en Claudia Rankine.
Based on the reading groups, Coco will make a series of collages that will be presented during the concluding weekend of 2 & 3 November.
If you want to take part in the reading group please make a reservation via the mail address: info@nieuwevide.nl
