Nieuwe Vide @ Boring festival: I want a penis

On 6 and 7 February, Nieuwe Vide will once again take part in Boring Festival with work by artist Mees Elias van Zanten at the Frans Hals Museum (Location Hal). In his work, he places the queer body at the center as a political battleground: a site where normativity is dismantled and where vulnerability, eroticism and pleasure are deployed as forms of resistance and emancipation.

I want a penis (Ik wil een piemel)

The I want a penis (Ik wil een piemel) project is a multidisciplinary project that emerged from a collaboration between Mees Elias van Zanten and Lucas Braak. Mees and Lucas, both trans, noticed how difficult it is for trans people to talk about the desire to have a penis.

In the current political climate, in which masculinity and manhood are increasingly problematized, the desire for a male body—especially as a left-wing advocate—almost seems to be a taboo in itself.

Is there still space to be allowed to feel this desire? How do you deal with it?
And might masculinity as a topic deserve more nuance in the discussion?

In this project, the artists investigate these questions through audiovisual work, text and sculpture.

During Boring
Both artists will be present in the interactive work. On both evenings, they will each recite a poem. A video will also be shown, which was created during the residency period at Nieuwe Vide.
