During the past weeks we have been inundated online with information about the Corona virus. It’s sometimes difficult to distinguish between what’s true and what is complete nonsense. Everyone has their own idea of how to tackle the situation. Conspiracy theories and ‘fake news’ have spread rapidly. Of course the trustworthiness of (online) information was being questioned long before the outbreak of Covid-19. The crisis has only served to magnify the problem.
The exhibition ‘TMI: searching for truth in the post truth era’ was scheduled to open at the Nieuwe Vide towards the end of March. Regrettably, due to current circumstances, this was not possible.
Nonetheless, especially in these uncertain times, we think it’s important to showcase the work of artists who search for ‘truth’. Ironically enough we are now forced to use the same online platforms that contribute to spreading false information. This Online Zine therefore wants to offer a critical view of the role information plays. Art is used to analyse and research the distribution of information, both digitally and analogue. The Online Zine contains essays, pictures, gifs and videos.
This Online Zine is also a foretaste of the exhibition ‘TMI: searching for truth in the post-truth era’. We are working towards opening the exhibition at the end of summer at Nieuwe Vide.
