Tatreez Lab – A Stitch Without Thread – Mohammed Abushaban

23.09.2026 Teken Or Leave it workshop: Tatreez Lab – A Stitch Without Thread by Mohammed Abushaban

Tatreez is the traditional Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery. For centuries, motifs have been passed from mother to daughter – patterns stitched into clothing, telling stories of region, family, and place. A cypress tree, a star, a bird, a flower: each carries meaning. It is identity, sewn into fabric.

By changing the surface, scale, and method of making, tatreez can become more than decoration; it can become a way to speak about identity, memory, displacement, care, and collective experience.
The workshop is intended as a collective space for making, learning, and experimentation. Participants would be invited to work with Palestinian motifs and create their own tatreez-inspired compositions using alternative methods such as 3D-printed stamps, printed patterns, fabric experimentation, or other accessible tools. The goal is to makeTatreez easier to approach without making it less meaningful. There will be the option to make your designs on a scarf (for an extra cost).

Mohammed’s method begins from a respect for Palestinian Tatreez as a traditional practice, a cultural memory, and a visual language carried through generations.
