23 July – 21:15 // The Queer Image Pride editie: Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer

Screening + conversation with members of the Queer Visual Storytelling Network

On July 23rd, The Queer Image returns with a screening of Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer, followed by a conversation with members of the Queer Visual Storytelling Network, an initiative by Nieuwe Vide and the makers around Dit Lichaam van Ons that brings together queer artists working across comics, illustration, zines, animation, and other forms of visual storytelling.

Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer
Directed by Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané,
Jim Queen and the Quest for Chloroqueer is a bold, irreverent adult animated comedy set in the Parisian gay scene. The film follows Jim, a muscular gay influencer and self-declared king of the Gym Queens, whose world collapses when he contracts “Heterosis”: a mysterious virus that turns gay men straight. Suddenly abandoned by his followers and his community, Jim joins forces with Lucien, a young admirer still struggling with his own self-acceptance, to search for a cure that might save not only Jim, but queer life itself.

Using satire, fantasy, pop culture, and camp humour, Jim Queen transforms fears around sexuality, conformity, body politics, community pressure, and queer visibility into a delirious animated adventure.

After the screening, The Queer Image will host a conversation with artists Guus Møystad and Ndeh Monteiro, members of the Queer Visual Storytelling Network. Guus Møystad is an Amsterdam-based visual artist, writer, and storyteller whose work moves between text, image, fiction, history, fantasy, and folklore. Ndeh Monteiro is an illustrator and concept artist from Eindhoven whose work focuses on everyday beauty, queer joy, and meaningful relationships between characters.

About The Queer Image – a collaboration between Schuur & Nieuwe Vide

The Queer Image is a screening and conversation programme dedicated to queer cinema, visual culture, and image-making. Through films, talks, and encounters with artists, the programme creates a space to reflect on how queer lives are imagined, represented, archived, distorted, celebrated, and shared through images.
