Doc4: pulling blood from stone

ned / eng

Ahmad Mallah (Palestine/Syria/Netherlands)& Rebecca Lillich // Krüger (USA/Germany) are an Amsterdam based performance duo utilizing symbolic objects as containers to explore conflict and risk through multiple mediums. Intersecting the personal and political, the duo performs open symbols to generate reflection, introspection and connection.

After a two month Doc4-Residency with Nieuwe Vide in Haarlem NL their first full show, pulling blood from stone will open July 4th 2025.  pulling blood from stone is an immersive installation reflecting on the weight of collapsing systems, the painful urgency of hope and the pain of the past within the present. Through video works, live performance and physical installations that reflect on an uneasy idea of home, the duo is entering a new chapter of approach, medium and purpose, entering one another’s histories and exchanging in a chaotic playing field.

More information

Their first work The Ladder (2023) was created in residence at Art House Holland and debuted at Prospects/Art Rotterdam 2024; the live performance was shown at Oerol Festival (Terschelling NL), Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam NL) and Schunck Museum (Heerlen NL) and this year at Vuurol Festival (Lage Vuursche, NL) and Sismograf Festival (Olot, ES.)

Their second work The Price of Bricks (2024) is a ritual performance; singular bricks are used to create a philosophical echo of borders, (dis)trust and risk. The work invites the audience to reflect on the agency and complexities of safety, how in building walls we limit ourselves while we all look up to the same sky. The performance debuted at Big Art 2024 and has been shown at Unfair (Amsterdam NL,) No Limits! Art Castle/Sexyland World (Amsterdam NL) and Kunstlinie (Almere NL) before traveling this year to Sismograf Festival (Olot, ES), Danzahara Festival (Zahara de los Atunes, ES) NDSM Fuse (Amsterdam NL,) Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam NL) Felix Meritis (Amsterdam NL) and Oerol Festival (Terschelling NL.)
