Nieuwe Vide Artspace and Studios is officially celebrating its 30th anniversary! The autumn exhibition of Nieuwe Vide – which can also be visited during Kunstlijn (the oldest studio route in Haarlem) – is each year an opportunity to connect new relationships and artistic interests within our Nieuwe Vide community by opening the doors of our cultural hub (broedplaats)

Since our artistic course is aimed at unraveling, revealing, and shifting systematic forms of inequality, we also turn our gaze inward during the autumn exhibition and practice a form of artistic (self)criticism. To celebrate creative experimentation, community, and the continuity of our existence under uncertain circumstances, we present in 2025 the exhibition: β€˜Vide Cultura: Through rot and renewal.’ With the future in mind, we will recycle, compost, transform, and grow.

Every Saturday in November, there will be an afternoon/evening program in our exhibition space to celebrate who we are and who we are becoming. Performances by various artists will be at the heart of this programming.
In addition to these performances, visitors can explore our exhibition during the weekends. During Kunstlijn (November 1 & 2 and November 7 & 8), there will also be open studios by our Nieuwe Vide Studiomakers.

Trough rot and renewal

Composting Politics is a method for social change. Good compost is crucial for fertile soil. With this idea, we want to reflect together with artists and visitors on what we want to grow, and how.

Just like composting food scraps, at Nieuwe Vide we compost ideologies and practices. We transform these practices through rotting, recycling, rethinking, and remixing into something new. These processes can be changed with more or less care: do you let the apple peels break down on their own? Or do you actively help by turning the compost heap every day? Some processes need more time than othersβ€”what choices do we make in this? When do we actively take part in the breakdown processes from which we can grow, and what do we let decompose, convert, and ultimately return on their own?
